Doug Williams, C'81, named treasurer for the university

Vice-Chancellor John McCardell announced today that E. Douglass (Doug) Williams, C'81, was elected this week by the Board of Regents as treasurer of the University.

Williams was Frank W. Wilson Professor of Economics at the University of the South before being appointed interim treasurer last year. As treasurer, Williams serves as chief financial officer of the University, and as an officer of the Corporation.

“For the past fourteen months, Doug has served capably as interim treasurer, and I am delighted that the Board accepted my recommendation,” said McCardell. “Doug’s leadership of our financial offices during a period of both physical and operational transition has been steady and sure.”

Williams has been a member of the Sewanee faculty since 1999. He has served as chair of the Economics Department and a member of the Board of the Babson Center for Global Commerce. Before returning to the Sewanee, he taught at Carleton College and was city economist in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
