Elections of new Regents by the University’s Board of Trustees occurred on October 9. Those elected by the Trustees to serve on the Board of Regents are Kimberly Dupree Belk, Daniel Duncan Boeckman, and the Rt. Rev. Dr. Dabney Tyler Smith.
Kim Belk, of Charlotte, N.C., is an alumna of the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and the parent of Frances Belk, C’15. She has served as a member of the Parents’ Council at Sewanee from 2011 to the present and was a past board member of Episcopal High School, Alexandria, Va. She has also served on the board of Charlotte Women of Vision and as an elder at Myers Park Presbyterian Church.
Dan Boeckman, C’82, is president of Turtle Creek Holdings, Inc., a Dallas-based private investment company involved in real estate development and environmental remediation. He has served Sewanee as a class agent, Career Services advisor, member of the Sewanee Development Council, member of the College Visiting Committee, and as host for numerous events in Dallas. He serves on the stewardship committee for St. Michael & All Angels Church.
The Rt. Rev. Dr. Dabney Smith, H’08, was elected to the Board of Regents to fill the remainder of the term of the Rt. Rev. John Howard, newly elected Chancellor. Smith has been bishop of the Diocese of Southwest Florida since 2007. In post-Katrina New Orleans, he served on the Jericho Road Episcopal Housing Initiative to create housing for hurricane victims. He previously served as assistant rector, Grace Church, Port Orange, Fla.; rector, St. Michael and All Angels Church, South Bend, Ind.; rector, Holy Trinity Church, Melbourne, Fla.; and rector of Trinity Church, New Orleans, La.
Dr. Alice A. Chenault (Huntsville, Ala.) and Dr. James A. Hefner (Nashville, Tenn.) have completed their six-year terms as Regents and were recognized for their service by the Board of Regents during their meeting last month.
The Board of Regents is the 20-member executive board of the University.
