Jazz Coffee House performance by the Kash Wright Trio
- on 5 Oct 2012
- Ayres Multicultural Center
The Kash Wright Trio of Baltimore, Md., will return for a Family Weekend performance at the Ayres Multicultural Center. The trio specializes in classic jazz with a nod to contemporary music as well. Their repertoire consists of songs from the Great American Songbook, original compositions by members of the band, and arrangements of popular songs from the 70’s to today.
Prakash Wright, a native of the Washington, D.C., area, is a Brown Foundation Fellow and visiting instructor of music at Sewanee. He teaches courses in music theory, jazz improvisation, and the history of gospel music, and directs the Jazz Band and conducts the Sewanee Praise gospel choir.
Wright and the trio are known for an impeccable sense of swing, tasteful arrangements, and bold original compositions. Mike Montgomery, a student of Anthony Wellington, provides straight-ahead jazz on the double bass. Bobby Beall is a drummer with great energy whose earliest influence was Billy Cobham.
If you enjoy great jazz, coffee, and company, come out to hear the Kash Wright Trio. Coffee, tea, and pastries will be offered. The event is free and open to the public. Sponsored by the Ayres Multicultural Center. For more information, call 931.598.1241.
