Sewanee student-athlete Jenny Liles, C'13, has been awarded a prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. The scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are in their final year of intercollegiate athletic competition.

Liles, the Class of 2013 valedictorian, is the third member of her class to win the honor, after Phillip Link and Sara Neil were named recipients in April. The embodiment of a successful student-athlete, Liles this year received the first-ever Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Woman of the Year award, was named a Capital One College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-American, was Sewanee’s co-Female Athlete of the Year, earned ITA All-American honors in both singles and doubles, and completed a double major in biochemistry and English.

This past season, Liles led Sewanee to the 2013 SAA Championship, the third round of the NCAA Tournament, and a No. 15 ITA national ranking. Over her career, Liles was a four-time all-conference selection and led the Tigers to a pair of NCAA Tournament berths.

Off the court, Liles was a four-time all-conference academic honoree and ITA Scholar-Athlete. She is a member of the Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honor Society, served as President of the Alpha Epsilon Delta National Medical Society, and was vice president this year of Sewanee’s Phi Beta Kappa chapter.

A native of Little Rock, Ark., Liles plans to attend the College of Medicine at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in the fall.

With 30 NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship recipients, Sewanee ranks among the nation's leading institutions in any NCAA division. Created in 1964, the scholarships promote and encourage education by rewarding the Association's most accomplished student-athletes. The NCAA makes awards to 87 women and 87 men annually, with each receiving $7,500.
