The University last weekend honored new members in the Athletic Hall of Fame, with a celebratory dinner at the Sewanee Inn on Friday evening and recognition during halftime of Saturday’s football game.
Sewanee’s crew team competed in a demanding 5,000-meter race last weekend against Virginia Tech, Georgia State, the University of Tennessee, UT-Chattanooga, Murray State and Vanderbilt University, and won silver medals in three events.
After a national search, the Sewanee Department of Athletics has named Tom Campbell as the new women’s basketball coach, Athletic Director Mark Webb announced. “Coach Campbell brings many years of coaching success to Sewanee,” said Webb. “He is an outstanding teacher of basketball as well as an accomplished recruiter to a highly selective, small liberal arts college. I am confident that our women’s basketball program will thrive under his leadership.”
The Sewanee Department of Athletics has named Tony Pacella as the new men's soccer coach, Athletic Director Mark Webb announced Thursday. "Coach Pacella will bring tremendous energy and leadership to our men's soccer program," said Webb. "As the top assistant coach at Amherst, he was instrumental in the success of the men's soccer program, which suffered only one loss during the last two seasons."
After 45 years of service, Sewanee Athletics staff member Bill Barry has announced that he will retire from the University of the South at the end of the school year. The Athletic Department will recognize Barry prior to the men's basketball game against Rhodes. The game is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21.
