Recent honors and accomplishments for Sewanee athletics teams include swimming All-American honors, a trip to nationals and academic honors for the equestrian team, record-setting track and field performances, a #16 national ranking for women's tennis, and a softball team fundraiser for cancer research.
Recent honors and accomplishments for Sewanee athletics teams include a regional championship by the equestrian team, academic honors for the field hockey team, three swimmers qualifying for Division III National Championships, and the rugby team’s top seed for the conference tournament.
Senior women's basketball player Logan Miller was named the SCAC Community & Character Athlete of the Week. A biochemistry and Spanish double major, Miller is a Georgia M. Wilkins Scholar, a member of the Order of Gownsmen, Phi Beta Kappa honor society, Sigma Delta Pi Spanish honor society, and Alpha Epsilon Delta pre-med honor society.
In its final regular season show of the season, the Sewanee equestrian team gained enough points to secure the 2012 IHSA Zone 5, Region 1 Hunter Seat Team Championship. That puts Sewanee in elite company among the 350 Intercollegiate Horse Show Association member institutions.
Over the weekend of Feb. 17-19 the Sewanee squash team competed in its first-ever College Squash Association National Team Championship in Philadelphia. The Sewanee team placed third in the G Division, beating the University of Vermont and New York University, and losing to the College of Charleston in the semifinal match.
